Copper Spoons is one of those succulents I love for its foliage rather than its flowers. The velvety, spoon-shaped leaves have a gorgeous rusty copper colour on top and a silvery underside, making it a fantastic plant for adding colour and texture to the garden all year round.
How to grow it
-
☀️ Position: Full sun to light shade. Plenty of light brings out the best copper colouring.
-
🌱 Soil: Excellent drainage is essential. Sandy or gritty soil is ideal.
-
💧 Water: Water while establishing, then sparingly. Allow the soil to dry between watering.
-
🪴 Pots: Fantastic in containers, particularly terracotta pots that complement the copper foliage.
-
🌿 Growth: An upright, branching succulent that can reach around 1–2 metres in ideal conditions.
-
✂️ Maintenance: Very low maintenance. Trim occasionally to encourage a bushier shape and protect from frost.
MY No.1 TIP:
Give it plenty of sunshine to bring out that incredible copper colour! In too much shade, the leaves can become greener and lose some of their impact. 🌿
