Feeling floored?Trends we're loving & our top tips

Flooring is one of those decisions you'll live with every single day. It sets the tone for your home, influences how warm it feels, how noisy it is... and even the quality of the air you breathe. So while trends are fun (I do love a good hip design moment), I always encourage people to choose flooring that will still make you happy in ten years' time.

Here are the flooring trends I'm loving right now — and the ones I think are actually worth investing in.

1. Warmer Timber Tones Are Officially Back

After years of cool grey floors, homes are warming up again. Think honey oak, natural oak and beautiful timber tones that make a room feel instantly more inviting.

My tip:
I've always believed homes should feel warm and welcoming, not like an airport lounge. Timber with golden, earthy tones brings so much life into a space and works beautifully with natural linens, greenery and soft whites.

2. Herringbone Isn't Just for Grand Homes Anymore

For years, herringbone flooring felt like something you'd admire in a heritage home or boutique hotel. Not anymore.

My tip:
Thanks to newer engineered and hybrid products, it's become much more achievable. If you're renovating and want to add character without filling your home with lots of "stuff", herringbone is a wonderful way to create interest from the ground up.

3. Choose Natural Materials Where You Can

This is where design and wellness come together beautifully.

Wellness tip:
If your budget allows, choose real timber flooring, pure wool carpet or natural fibre rugs. Not only do they age beautifully, but they contain fewer synthetic materials than many cheaper alternatives. Pure wool is naturally insulating, wonderfully soft underfoot and helps create that cosy feeling we all love during winter.

You don't have to renovate your whole house overnight — even adding a beautiful wool rug can make a noticeable difference.

4. One Floor Throughout Makes Your Home Feel Bigger

One of the biggest trends I'm seeing is people using the same flooring through almost the entire house, from entryways, to kitchens, bathrooms and even bedrooms.

Design tip:
Running one flooring material from your entry through your living areas creates a seamless flow that instantly makes your home feel larger and calmer. It's also far easier on the eye than lots of different flooring finishes competing for attention.

Sometimes the simplest design decisions have the biggest impact.

5. Matte Wins Every Time

If you're choosing flooring today, I'd almost always steer you towards a matte or satin finish.

My tip:
Gloss flooring shows every footprint, every scratch and every speck of dust... and if you have children, pets or a husband who somehow walks through the house in muddy boots (just me?), you'll be forever chasing it.

A matte finish feels softer, more natural and much more forgiving. Which means less time cleaning... and more time actually enjoying your home.

The takeaway...

The best flooring isn't necessarily the most expensive or the trendiest. It's the one that makes your home feel warm, timeless, comfortable and healthy to live in every day.

Because that's really what we're trying to create, isn't it? A home that feels just as good as it looks.
